Gorillas in the Mist

by on Jul.08, 2012, under Colorado, Ride Reports

I’m happy for the rain we have had over the past couple of days.  It provided a nice break to nearly a month of temperatures in the nineties.  It could probably rain in feet and the trails would just soak it up at this point.  So, the few inches we have gotten, just hold down the dust.

We did manage to sneak in a ride this morning at Golden Gate Canyon State Park.  With the low clouds rolling over the hills, it felt more like riding in Scotland than in Colorado.

I know the term “hero dirt” is way over used, but when you have been riding on dust for a month, this really is the stuff of heroes.

I was very glad to get my 29er back from the shop. I’ve missed her pink steel.

It was a very different ride today.  High humidity, a cold breeze, a beautiful green hue now that the dust has been washed off.

It just proves that you do not always need sunshine to have a great ride.

Reaching the top, there was a slight break in the clouds.  It wasn’t long lasting and watching the mist and clouds out of the mountains was special.

I usually go the opposite direction when I ride here, but we wanted some rocky fun on the way down.  The humidity made the rocks a little more interesting than normal.

It sure made the Gorillas in the Mist, happy.

I want to introduce you to Winston.  He is an 8 year old male mini schnauzer in good health and well trained.  His former owners decided they didn’t want him anymore and brought him to the vet to be euthanized.  Luckily, the vet called the mini schnauzer rescue and we are now fostering him for them.  He really needs a loving forever home.  We already have quite a few dogs, so it is hard for us to keep him permanently.  If you or someone you know is looking for the perfect companion, please think about adoption.  Even if it is not Winston, rescues make the greatest pets and they know that they have been given a second chance.
